How to measure for our collars
Buckle collars
Our collars are measured along the leather from the buckle to the 2nd hole.
The best way to get a good fit is to take a collar that fits your dog well and measure it along the leather from the buckle to the hole that you normally use. This will give you the size needed.
If you don't have a collar to measure take a flexible tape measure and measure round the dog's neck where the collar should sit. For a comfortable fit you should put two fingers under the tape when measuring.
Slip collars
Our slip collars are made to the actual measurements that you send as we have to make sure that when tight they are smaller than the dog's head, but when loose will go over the head.
For slip collars we need two measurements:
Head - over the widest part where the ears are (so we can get the collar on the dog and more importantly off again over the ears).
Neck - at the narrowest point just behind the head (so that when pulled tight, the collar is smaller than the head).
Martingale collars
Our martingale collars are made to the actual measurements that you send as we have to make sure that when tight they are smaller than the dog's head, but when loose will go over the head.
Head - over the widest part where the ears are (so we can get the collar on the dog and more importantly off again over the ears).
Neck - at the narrowest point just behind the head (so that when pulled tight, the collar is smaller than the head).
All measurements are subject to slight variations as our collars are handmade
Wider and longer collars can always be custom made to order. Please see our custom designs page for more information.
